School district funding

Anon wanted me to start a thread on the Harrisburg School District problems - so here goes. Anon says:

"Anyway--did anyone attend the Harrisburg School District meeting tonight? There are furlough rumors, program cut rumors, etc.Sorry--I can't trust the Patriot News to report unbiasedly on this subject anymore."

I didn't go. But, then I don't have kids (single, childless) in the School District, I just pay taxes. I always feel like I don't have the right to protest how other people's children are educated. Where are all the parents of the kids? Why aren't they up in arms about the low achievement levels? Me, all I can do is bitch about the cost and then Kohn comes back with a seemingly logical explanation for the costs, making us all feel like louses for complaining. Me? Perry County is starting to look VERY attractive....

Kohn came up with a justification for his $235k salary?

That's small change though compared to the $20 million figure was mentioned several months ago on the Harrisburg board....and guess what? That's what they are asking for.

Jason makes a good point today. Where has the media been? I know for a FACT that people have been calling the Patriot for months now asking John to look into the spending.

I hope everyone enjoys the furloughs and the program cuts unless Rendell wants to trust the gang to spend itself into another $20 million deficit in the next five years.

Where are the auditors?

Gaston St--I hear that Perry County pays a percentage in their wage taxes to send back to Harrisburg to "help."

I could be wrong--anyone know for sure?
